We are a multicultural classroom. The majority of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. We have a large population of migrant students from various places. The largest group is students from Somalia. For some of our students, this is their first time going to school in America.
Many of our students are trauma-impacted, low-income students.
These students view school as their safe place and a place where they can be themselves. We have a very supportive community that is built mostly of refugees.
My Project
We are looking for fleece blanket kits for our students to make and donate. Our students really enjoy this project and it is only made possible by your generous donations.
Every year we try to teach our 6th-grade students the importance of giving by having them make fleece tie blankets and donating to different areas of need.
In the past, we have donated to the children's hospital in the area and one of the local nursing homes. This is one of our favorite activities to do as an entire 6th grade.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
