Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When students come to me and ask, "Ms. Lu-an can we help in the garden?" it means so very much to me. Even though they may not have a plot in our garden, they want to help and make it look beautiful, and see how the plants grow. This is so very comforting to me.

Our children need to know how to prepare, plant, and grow their own food.

Not only is it good for them to learn by doing, but it also provides them with food to take home to their families. They are learning how to provide for themselves. This project will help them throughout their adulthood, while having fun at the same time.

They are able to be outside, using their hands, learning responsibility, and having fun. During these times, they work on math by how much space each plant takes. Being able to count by counting the berries. They are learning science by knowing what the soil takes to stay healthy for the plants, what all the plant requires to stay healthy, and how much water it takes to stay alive.

This project provides our students with so much more than just berries.
