Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

There have been so many occasions in the past three years of my teaching career where parents did not receive important notices because they somehow got lost in the black hole that is their child's book bag! I'm not just talking about little notes, but progress reports, field trip permission slips, Parent-Teacher Conference reminders and much more! It's NOT that my students are irresponsible, they just don't know how to keep themselves organized unless they're given systems to help them become more organized people. (I tried buying them some re-closeable envelopes earlier this year, but most of them broke since the quality wasn't the greatest, but it was all I could afford to buy in bulk.) Further, students are always reading at least two books at one time. One of the books is for their book club and the other one is their independent reading book. They all bring post-it notes, pencils and reading logs between home and school daily. Sometimes the kids do not complete the writing about their reading since they forget to take the post-its out of their desks and put it into their backpacks. (They do quick jottings about what they notice in a text on post-its and then put it in their books so they can talk about it in school with me or with their book club.) Since many of my students don't have pads of post-its lying around their apartments, they aren't able to jot down notes as they read on a given night. Hence, they each need a large, sturdy book pouch to keep their reading materials together. That's where you come in; I need your help to bring post-it notes, craft trays, and sturdy clearview bags and book pouches into my classroom, so I may give my students some organizational systems before they head off to junior high school. If they're still losing things once they reach middle school, then they'll be destined to fail. They're a hard-working, sweet bunch of kids who need your help since their parents cannot afford to buy them the necessary organizational supplies. (Nearly all of my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch.) With your assistance, I know I can have my kids working more efficiently in just a couple of weeks. Thank you, in advance, for your generosity and your commitment to building more organized and efficient people!
