My Students

My students are from a large, urban community that welcomes families from all backgrounds. They bring a blend of diversity, prior experiences, and culture to our school. I teach in a Kindergarten inclusion classroom where several of my students receive special education services for a range of disabilities, including intellectual, emotional, autism spectrum disorder, and many other specific learning disabilities. Many of my students also receive ESL services. The majority of my students receive free breakfast and lunch.

They are a fun-loving hard-working group of students that are eager to learn and grow!

My Project

Learning about Black History and Genius are very important topics that need to be explored and developed at an early age. My Kindergarten students need to see and hear stories that represent them, their culture, their community, and their world.

Representation Matters.

In our increasingly diverse society, it’s more important than ever for all teachers to incorporate culturally responsive instruction in the classroom

The remaining items requested (skin color paper, watercolors, art supplies, etc.) will help us create art projects that reflect our Genius and Joy. The storage containers/envelopes will provide a place for us to store all of these materials and books.
