This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a speech-language therapist and I work at an elementary school serving students with learning disabilities. Each and every day is a new adventure as they learn various strategies to improve their receptive and expressive language skills. I love seeing their faces light up as they begin to understand new concepts, produced sounds correctly in words, read, spelled words, or wrote sentences independently. However, many of my students express feeling hungry throughout the day which results in a lack of focus and mental stamina to learn. Having a variety of snacks for my students to select will help bite back hunger and give them the fuel needed to focus on their learning.
