Bisque Bowls to Beat Hunger

My Project

For the last 15 years, we have held an Empty Bowls Event at the school. Usually students create bowls, glaze them, and place them on display for donations to help our local food bank. This project is something I start the year with and is focused on service-learning with a collaborative effort on how the arts can help activate the community towards actions that helps others.

This year, I would like to give students and others the opportunity to glaze bowls for our Empty Bowls Event by starting out with these Mayco Bisque pieces.

By starting out with the bowls already created, it will give my students a new opportunity to see the difference between the ones that make with clay and ones you can use from mass-produced means in bisque form. This will also reinforce clay terms and the scientific process of ceramics as materials start as dirt from the ground and results in functional pieces that are glazed. I am excited to bring this resource to my students with your help and continue our tradition of helping others through the use of the arts.
