it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
GE is a Chicago Public School! We are a highly diverse community, with about half of our students coming to GE from all over the city as part of our gifted bilingual program. Our school has an 76% low-income population; 28% are "limited English" learners. We're PreK - 8 and have 445 students! Our students work hard and achieve amazing things! Thank you for considering our project!
My Project
Last spring, we began designing birdhouses to 3D print and hang in the trees around our school. The project was put on pause when covid hit. Our students will begin returning to the classroom this March, about a year after we started the birdhouse project. It is our goal to come back better than ever by building these birdhouses with webcams now and watching these birds move in!
We will design birdhouses, 3D print them, wire them with cameras and then set up a livestream for our school community to watch birds be born and grow together this spring.
To be on the safe side, I am also requesting some professionally-made birdhouses and a few supplies to draw the birds in -- we are in an urban area :). This project has the potential to be a symbol of resilience for our students as well a STEM project to bring the school together for years to come. Thank you for your consideration!
