Each of the three classes have unique students and needs. The 4th grade gen ed students have been learning about energy and electricity and have loved creating and simple electrical systems. In the photos, you can see the students collaborating to build a solar fans!\r\n\r\nThe 4th and 5th grade split class is composed of gifted, migrant, and special ed students. It is a bilingual class that works best in small groups allowing us to target specific skills needed to collaborate in American schools. Most of the items requested in this project have been designed to help this particular group get the background information needed for comprehension of complex topics. \r\n\r\nThe 5th grade group is studying patterns of the sky and have truly benefited from the photos and supplies to understand the wide expanse of our solar system and surrounding galaxies. Our new learning around black holes has been inspiring. We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The students read the books independently and met each Tuesday and Thursday to discuss characters, character traits, setting, plot events, problem and solution, as well as vocabulary words and other reading comprehension strategies. Battle of the Books participants improved their reading skills as well as honed their discussion techniques through these thought provoking and diverse books.\r\nYou also donated to my specific classroom by providing high interest graphic novels, sports books, and DIY \"scratch off\" bookmarks. Students in 4th grade love the graphic novel series called, Amulet, and these books have been checked out continuously since arrival. The addition of our new soccer books spurred us to write a class set of soccer rules.
