Many of my classified students come to me with Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) as part of their Individualized Education Plans. These are students who have behavior needs that impact some part or all of their day. The plans in place are to encourage, reward and teach students to regulate their behaviors in order to have a successful day at school.
Based on these BIPS, students choose rewards or incentives to work towards, as they achieve their target behaviors.
These rewards can be something like a sticker to add to their chart or to take home, or time with a STEM bin, playing a puzzle or game with a friend, etc.
The materials I have chosen would be used as these rewards and incentives, where students could earn them and/or use them to help calm down or get themselves in a positive frame of mind. There are a variety of uses for the items I have selected. Playdoh is a popular choice amongst my students and it not only is fun for them, but it is also a great sensory activity and calming activity as well. Another item on my list is the seating mats. These could be used as a reward to "Sit outside and read" or "sit in a special spot to chill", etc. I also included a few puzzles and games, as students love to choose a partner to work with, which not only rewards the positive behavior, but also allows time for the students to interact with a peer in a positive way.
