Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an energetic class of 20 3rd graders! We live and go to school in Downtown Minneapolis, MN. We all come from Latino backgrounds, and 94% of our school qualifies for free and reduced-price lunch.

Part of our goal is to embrace the Latino culture.

One way we can do that is by integrating pieces of our culture into our learning. It is very important to have a great education so that we can be role models to everyone, especially those of our culture.

My Project

As a small, urban school, my students face many challenges. One of those is that they're all English Language Learners, and many of them fall below the poverty line. That being said, both at school and at home, our students have very limited access to technology. Being able to navigate on any given device is an important skill, but being able to communicate through technology is an even more vital 21st century skill. By requesting two tablets and one laptop, students would bed able to practice many skills. They can use apps that are meant to assist in learning English. These will also give them easier access to texts and passages that are at their reading level through many apps. Lastly, the laptop will be used for research and typing club. They are only able to practice those skills once a week in technology class. Please consider donating to my class!
