My Students
I teach at a school in a great neighborhood. My school is located in a beautiful city at the bottom of a beautiful mountain range. From the gym, one whole side is complete windows, and all you see are the mountains. My school is 54 years old and still has many upgrades needed. It's an old school, with old furniture.
My students are all about the growth mindset.
We strive to learn from our mistakes. We do hard things.
We work hard to provide opportunities for our kids to learn about the world and how to be successful. We strive every day to help each other and do the best that we can! We are also big fans of Harry Potter.
My Project
Every January, we do a biography unit. Each student chooses one person from history to do a project on. I love the "Who Was" or "Who Is" book series. These books are interesting and easy for the students to read. At the end of the month, each student creates a project about their chosen person. Using a poster board, they cut a hole in the middle, stick their faces through the hole, and "become" the person. It's always a really fun project.
During the month of January, we study 2-3 famous people every week.
These people are heroes in our history. For example, George Washington, Martin Luther King Jr., Harriet Tubman, Bessie Coleman, and several more. Students love learning about these people and what they did to make the world a better place. These movies are short, but they share the essential point of each person's life.
