This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are loving our new school library as they come back for face-to-face instruction. Books line the walls and fill shelves with fiction series, graphic novels, and engaging nonfiction.

Our students may love math and science, but they get hooked on great books.

Reading is such a fundamental part of education that we work to incorporate it into every subject, multiple times a day.

Our diverse student body in Yuma's North End is far from many community resources. We're excited to be a positive, welcoming part of the neighborhood.

My Project

Research shows that a great tool for teaching kids not to give up is biographies. Anyone who has found success in his or her field has faced obstacles along the way.

Reading biographies gives students a chance to see how others have handled heartbreak and defeat.

Without being preachy, students who read these texts are able to internalize messages about how to handle their own challenges.

Biographies rang from gorgeous picture books with text at higher grade levels, perfect for read alouds, to stand alone titles that go more in depth for a fuller view of a famous life.
