This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Micropipettes will transform the way my students experience science. Right now, we simulate precision lab work using plastic droppers and measuring spoons—not exactly the tools of future scientists. With real micropipettes in our hands, students will be able to perform college-level experiments like measuring exact nutrient concentrations, conducting biofilm formation studies, and practicing sterile lab techniques. These tools will bring authenticity and accuracy to our labs and help students understand the connection between the procedures they see in textbooks and real-world science.
My goal is to create a classroom where students don't just learn science—they do science.
We’re exploring topics like water quality, microbiology, and environmental sustainability, and having access to micropipettes means students can design their own experiments, test hypotheses with precision, and build confidence in using tools that real scientists rely on. It’s not just about accuracy—it’s about giving them ownership of the scientific process.
My students are curious, motivated, and resilient. Many come from under-resourced backgrounds, but they bring a deep sense of wonder and responsibility to our class—especially when we connect science to real-world challenges like pollution and climate change. When they’re trusted with real tools, they rise to the occasion. Micropipettes aren’t just plastic lab instruments—they’re a key to unlocking confidence, curiosity, and career dreams.
