This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our classroom, students are working hard every day to strengthen foundational reading skills through the Wilson Reading System, a structured literacy program designed to support students with dyslexia and other reading challenges. These lessons require specific materials (sound cards, word cards, magnetic tiles, controlled texts, notebooks, and manipulatives) that are used daily during small-group instruction. Right now, these materials are stored in multiple locations and often become disorganized, which makes transitions harder and reduces valuable instructional time.

When literacy materials are scattered, struggling readers lose both time and confidence.

My students rely on routine, structure, and predictability to feel successful. A dedicated cubby storage unit with clearly labeled bins will create a central, organized literacy hub in our classroom. Students will be able to quickly access the materials they need, participate in smoother transitions, and even take ownership by helping retrieve and return supplies. An organized space reinforces the same structure and clarity that Wilson instruction provides.

By creating a structured and accessible literacy space, we are not just storing materials, but fostering independence, focus, and confidence. With improved organization, we can spend less time searching for materials and more time strengthening reading skills. This small change will have a lasting impact on our students as they work toward becoming strong, capable readers.
