Bins, Batteries & Book Rings, Our Library Needs New Things
Help me give my students basic library supplies, such as batteries, markers, cups, plates, magnetic hooks and more to help the library operate smoothly.
As a librarian in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am aiming to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
Our library is the center of learning for our diverse population.
Our students visit the library often, for a variety of reasons, and I want to continue to serve them in all subject areas such as English, math, science, social studies, and robotics.
Our elementary school is a large, urban public school with almost five hundred students. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over seventy percent of our students receiving free lunch. The ethnic breakdown of the school is 39% white, 37% Hispanic, 14% black, and 8% Asian.
My Project
Our school library needs some basic supplies that will support learning in our school. I have a variety of popular and award-winning books but the books are not easily accessible or seen because of the lack of space.
The book bins and book ends that I am requesting will work perfectly for our needs.
The shelves are deep enough for me to fill bins with popular interesting book series, therefore putting books in bins will help students find them quickly and easily.
My students will be able to quickly see and sort through the shelves to select books that are appropriate out in the open for their reading pleasure. Please help me get the books out of the bookcases and out in the open for students to read, learn, and enjoy.
The teacher stool will be placed in a central location so I can place my read aloud books for PreK-1st grade students. This will help me organize the area, and give the students a visual of which way to face.
Our library goes through batteries constantly. These batteries will be used to power various items such as Playaways, and Code a Pillar. The markers will be used for various art activities for all grade levels. The magnet hooks and book rings will be used to hang student work, and the bins will be used to store all the supplies in a neat and orderly way. In addition, I am requesting makerspace supplies such as paper plates, washi tape, and cups. Children will use these supplies to build and create new things by trial and error.
I want to create an inviting school library. My students need to be able to choose enjoyable books that are hidden among the bookcases, and to be able to relax with decorative pillows.
