Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We're a Title I school in El Paso, Texas with high rates of mobility, poverty and 83% of students receive a free or reduced-price lunch. I am a Special Education teacher that was moved for the 2019-20 school year to a new self-contained class for students that need a modified curriculum. However this doesn't stop them from leading the school.
Our students learn perseverance through hard work and effort in spite of learning difficulties.
It takes them more time and effort but they do not quit! With your support, I have students that are leading the school in areas like reading and math!
My Project
Most of my students have risen to the challenges that I've set for them through the use of positive reinforcement prizes and rewards based on their academic performance. If they meet our weekly reading goal, they get a prize and so on.
This has been so successful that I was the only teacher in our entire school to have 2 students with more than 100 lessons passed in a Math competition!
I am super excited about the heights we've reached, but not all of my students are outperforming themselves yet. I want these items to help motivate my few students that need an extra push. All my students will benefit from them and absolutely love these items, but I will not let any of my students fall behind.
