My Project
How do you get kids to beg to have practice time on IXL? Turn IXL reading practice into a game- BINGO. I have incorporated financial literacy skills, BINGO, and reading skills on IXL together, and the students love it! BINGO Bucks can be earned by completing the preassigned IXL skills located in the boxes of a BINGO card. Once students complete a skill, the box is signed by the teacher and students receive a "BINGO Buck" that can be used to "buy" goods- chocolate, Zotz, and popcorn.
The more skills completed by students, the more goods the student can buy.
A five-in-a-row BINGO earns a soda and popcorn! Students are encouraged to save all their "bucks" for the future. Once a BINGO Blackout is achieved, the student gets to "buy" an activity time playing on an Oculus virtual reality headset, or a "Sit-by-My-Buddy-Pass." Not only are my kids honing their reading skills, but they are also learning about the financial literacy strategy of saving and the economic power of purchase.
