This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students have difficulty speaking clearly and many cannot even say their own name without someone asking, "What did you say?"

They have challenges producing the actual sounds needed to speak and communicate clearly, which leads to countless issues down the road, such as frustration, isolation, and safety concerns.

How can someone ask an adult for help when they cannot say their own name well?

I have selected some games and practice cards that I know are effective and motivating for children because I have used similar items and students willingly use them. They love bingo so much! I was surprised what a hit it is, but every time I bring it out, them pump their fists in excitement! It is a fun and stimulating activity that involves everyone, even learners who are struggling the most.

My goal for all of the students I work with is to help them to be functional members of society. I don't want them to slip through the cracks and end up unable to communicate with others. When they speak and no one can understand them, it is not functional for anyone. How can they move forward in the world when no one can hardly understand them when they speak?

I also want you to know that all materials I am able to get through Donors Choose are treasured and valued. Nothing is thrown into a closet or tucked away. They are used right away and will be for years and years. I am working in a district that is impoverished, and I have never received any help from parents and very little from the district itself. I take care of all materials and make sure that the children do, too!
