My Students
My homeroom students are kind hearted, respectful, and generous. My class is a melting pot of various cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. What impresses me the most is they get along with each other well. We've come a long way from the first day of school starting with basic inclusive / relationship building activities. They were hesitant, shy, risk adverse. Now, we've grown into a family unit. We can work as cooperative unit and each student are starting to see the vital role they play in the class.
Our mission to cultivate responsible and caring citizens.
Every year, we look for ways to contribute to those less fortunate. For many, this is the first time they can make meaningful contributions to the community they live in.
My Project
My students will visit a local retirement home for a morning of music, dance, and games. We will entertain residents with ukulele, Hawaiian songs, & hula. Students will also lead popular activities such as Bingo. Other students will assist residents as needed. Prizes will include gardening aprons, gardening tools, or large print playing cards. We selected prizes that most represented the hobbies and interests of the elderly residents.
Our mission is to promote positive citizenship and connect young and old generations of our Ewa community.
For most of my class, this will be the first time doing community service. This will help to create connections within their own town of Ewa Beach. Connections lead to positive interactions which leads to a healthier, safer place to live. Live with Aloha. That's the goal.
They are our future neighbors. In a few short years, they'll be driving on the same streets, in the workplace. Fostering civic minded youth is key for a thriving community.
