My Students

Early learners with moderate to severe autism are such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. All of our student classrooms incorporate students with various vocational and activities of daily living skills. In these classes, we celebrate all experiences. As an instructional coach for the school, I am able to assist over 320 students on a daily basis. The work we do in all classrooms is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate differences and what others feel are small accomplishments such as following a demand to sit or stand. I am excited to help these teachers teach them skills to better promote their learning and prepare them for all life skills.

My Project

A bookbinding machine would change the way our students see reading and writing. They would be able to see themselves as real authors and illustrators, as I would use this machine to transform student writing into books that they could keep forever. My students could not only read their own works but would get to enjoy the stories written by their classmates!

With the bookbinding machine and the supplies to use it, my students can take ownership of their work!

My students would be able to create books that can be read time and time again!

One of my goals for my students is that they would take responsibility for and ownership of their own learning and these tools would be a great step in helping them meet their independence goals!
