Binders: The AVID Way

My students need 3-inch binders, dividers, pencil pencil pouches, and sheet protectors to fully be able to use the AVID binder strategy.

My Students

For many of my students, a college education of any type is not in their foreseeable future. My job is to change that! AVID: Decades of College Dreams

A large number of the students in my school live in high poverty communities.

They face many challenges both in the classroom and out of the classroom. The AVID Elective is the core of AVID Secondary. It targets students in the academic middle (A, B, C, and even D) students with the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. Typically, they will be the first in their families to attend college, and come from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education. These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but are falling short of their potential.

My Project

To support them in the rigorous coursework, AVID students learn organizational and study skills, develop critical thinking, learn to ask probing questions, receive academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities to make their college dreams real. The materials requested will create an AVID binder which is the cornerstone of the AVID program. It will be the greatest organizational tool they will learn. The 3" binder allows the students to house all school work and journals for the all core classes for the the entire year. The dividers and sheet protectors will keep things organized and safe. In my school, students use composition book journals instead of loose paper. This is another great tool for the students. Last, the reinforced hole pencil pouches keep all other small school supplies safe and secure. The AVID binder is essentially a students whole school like enclosed in one safe place.

The materials I have requested will become the key to my students being successful in the AVID class.

AVID gives my students the skills and strategies to be successful in school, begin to take more rigorous courses, and successfully complete college eligibility requirements.
