Help me give my students headphones for their 1:1 devices in the classroom along with binders, folders, and labels to create home to school binders and a portfolio to log their student data.
I am a third-grade teacher in a high poverty and low-income community on the island of Hawaii. My class is a mix of third grade English Language Learners and General Education learners who are excited about school. To see these kids in their element, having fun, and learning is a truly gratifying experience.
These students face many challenges every day most out of their control but still manage to come to school with open hearts, minds, and the excitement for learning.
A mix of my students are performing at a third-grade level and struggle with reading, writing, and math skills. Having these materials donated will help our kids to achieve their educational goals and to make learning a fun and exciting experience for our young learners.
My Project
Being able to teach 3rd graders about organizational skills has been a challenge until I discovered the magic of a student binders which makes this project very near and dear to my heart.
Organization is is something that is often overlooked and taken for granted and is also one skill that must be practiced and built upon in order to succeed at school.
Having a home/school binder will help to foster College and Career Readiness by holding students accountable for transporting materials to and from class while at the same time helping to create and develop routines so students are better prepared for class with a good sense of order, knowing where all their papers and materials belong thus increasing learning time and decreasing frustration. It is my hope that students will carry these skills on to their future grades and hopefully strengthen them over time.
I am also requesting materials like manilla folders, and labels to make "data portfolios". These are to help students build a growth mindset and to set and achieve attainable goals.
Finally, I am requesting a pair of headphones for each of my students. Some of our families have multiple school age children and buying supplies can often become costly. Headphones are essential to give students a distraction free experience when doing online tasks from their online work to state testing.
For our students who come to school willing to learn, it is so hard to do so without the right tools. As a low income school, we try to provide as much as possible, but sadly sometimes that isn't enough. Having this project fully funded will not only give students the tools they need to be successful, but it will also leave them with love and support knowing that kindness is flooding their way.
