Binders Beat Notebooks

Help me give my students binders to replace their science notebooks. Students will use the binders to organize the work they do during investigations and research. The tab dividers will help them to separate the content.

My Students

We are an urban, K-8 school. In fact, we are the only public K-8 in our entire state! This allows us to be creative and not have to conform to any elementary or middle school mold. We also happen to be a Title I school.

My students are excited to investigate science, to learn about the the world around them, and to expand their capacity for critical thinking.

They take pride in their work and are willing to challenge their minds for the sake of learning.

My Project

My 7th and 8th grade science students need a better method of organizing their in-class work. Currently, we use spiral notebooks to collect results from investigations, store content information, and write scientific explanations. The notebooks get very beat up throughout the year and require a lot of class time to glue their work onto the spiral notebook pages. This is a waste of class-time.

We'd much prefer spending our time doing science than cutting and gluing our work to fit into the notebooks.

By replacing these with 3-ring binders we can hole punch our work, place it in the binder and move on!
