Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from over twenty countries, speaking a dozen languages. No matter the native language though, students too quickly learn to say, "I lost my work!" It is a phrase I hear at least once a day. After watching too many students suffer from poor organizational skills, I am determined from the first day of school and all year long to teach them this skill that will help them no matter what they do for the rest of their lives.

It is so important in that first day to set the tone that I want them to have the tools to succeed, which is why I need your help to get all of them binders.

My Project

Most of my students' families fall below the poverty line. Many are on public assistance; many others are barely surviving. Yet, my students are expected to meet the same educational standards as more affluent students of New York. My proposal is to give my students a leg up, and in the first week of school provide them all with the binders and composition books they will need.

With all the difficulties in their lives, students often forget, or simply cannot afford to purchase the needed supplies.

A school year is long, and almost every day there are new papers and notes to keep track of. It is overwhelming for many students. A binder for notes and work, and composition books for a student-generated glossary are a first step towards effective learning.

Your act of kindness will go a long way in eliminating this obstacle to the learning process and will be remembered by our students. Students will also know that there are people in their community who care about them and their education. Please help me help those most in need with the basics. If they aren't stressed about the assignment they lost, we can get on with making learning fun and engaging. Thank you for your generosity.
