This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hi, I teach 7th graders life science and health science. I absolutely love my job! But I know that I need so many more resources to make my class room run the way I want it to.

In my class, I use PowerPoint lessons, art, and at least one lab/hands on activities to teach a concept/unit. I also like to show a DVD from time to time. I feel it wraps up a lesson well. Some units I feel really benefit from a DVD explanation to make the concept more clear to the students. For example, after I teach about mitosis for a couple of days, I'll show a DVD on it. The kids grasp the concept more once I have taught it and a DVD as reinforced it.

The students enjoy these DVDs and their learning is enhanced by them as well. I like Bill Nye because he not only gives great knowledge to the audience, but he also makes them laugh. I will not show a DVD unless I know it is entertaining and has good information, information relevant to my lessons. I know if a DVD puts me to sleep- it is sure to put my thirteen year olds to sleep! I want to engage my students, not put them down for a nap.

Please help me bring these DVDs to my class room. I would so appreciate it, as would my students. They are always thrilled to get that "treat" day where they get to watch a DVD. They enjoy learning about science through many modalities. DVDs are just one of many I use in my class- one they always look forward to. Thank you so much!
