My students need multicultural books in the classroom library to expand their reading comprehension skills and imaginations. They also need classroom supplies such as nameplate sleeves and magnetic sentence strips.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"To have another language is to possess a second soul."
- Charlemagne
The students embarking on this new adventure with me this school year will be part of a multicultural and bilingual classroom environment. This diverse group of learners come from various backgrounds from across the Caribbean, Central and South America. These students are being granted the opportunity to be part of Spanish Dual Language program. English Language Learners are being given the opportunity to learn a new language by using their prior knowledge and English speaking students are being given the opportunity to learn and develop the Spanish language.
My Project
The Authentic Spanish Language Collection, Multicultural Stories, and Spanish Words Embedded into Stories Book set were chosen for the creation of the bilingual/multicultural classroom library. Through these books students will be given the opportunity to choose text from a wide variety of multicultural text. I want students to become avid readers in both Spanish and English. Granting them the opportunity to explore their cultures through various text where they can see languages coming together to tell a story they can relate to. Creating a fun center for students to enhance their reading skills and expand their horizons is the goal of this library.
