Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in a Dual Immersion class. They love to read Spanish and English books. Often they ask me if they can borrow books to read at home since many of them don't have them available in their home. They come from low income homes, where their family priority is to provide food to their table not books.

We have the AR program( Accelerated Reader) students read books then take a quiz, it gets them excited to see when they get points.

But unfortunately my classroom library is very limited on Spanish books.

My Project

My students will have the opportunity to read authentic Spanish literature and will improve their reading levels. They will increase their vocabulary, at the same time they will have the opportunity to take books home. My students use my classroom library on a daily basis. I give them time to choose a book and read anywhere they like in the classroom. By having more books in my classroom library it will give students more choices to pick from. It will increase their enthusiasm about reading. I also do read alouds to teach different skills, and I often struggle to find a good Spanish book. Having a variety in my classroom will make it easier.
