This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine as a child if you had to learn a new language and didn't have the resources to do so? This is the challenge that my kindergarteners face at my school.
My students are five and six year old children that are in their majority recent immigrants.
They come from families with very low socioeconomic statuses, that are facing the challenges of surviving in a new country, in a new culture. My boys and girls are beautiful children that, although scared, are trying to assimilate a whole new world to them. My campus, is wonderful, but located in a low socioeconomic neighborhood, in a huge district that can not always meet the needs of all of it's students. Sometimes it is up to us teachers to find the mean to reach our students to deliver the best possible education.
My Project
My request is composed of a variety of literacy materials that I know will help my students very much in the acquisition a second language. For now, this is my number one challenge. I am ordering vocabulary cards with pictures that I can teach and post around my classroom so that my students can have easy access to. These cards will go hand in hand with the journals that I plan to reproduce and bind for my student to use during our writing time. I also added different Bingo games: alphabet, sounds and numbers, in the request. They will provide a fun way to target and reinforce those skills. The Greg and Steve CD is a classroom favorite that teaches the months of the year, etc., but unfortunately it already has too many scratches and needs replacing. The rhyming book set will provide a visual aid in learning this very difficult concept. Please know that these materials are essential and will be of great help to my students learning needs.
I am so excited about the possibility of receiving the donations to fund my request that it still seems unreal.
The materials will be a wonderful way to teach English to my students and to develop their comprehension skills which is so difficult to do. My students deserve the best possible chance to succeed in our education system and I invite you to be a contributor to this great endeavor that awaits them. Your donations will aid in the formation of our future professionals, I promise you.
