This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are first, second and third-generation immigrants from Central and South America. Their parents came into this country wanting them to have a better life and better education. They show enthusiasm towards learning and being part of a new culture.

My students are the reason that I love teaching.

Many of my students come from limited schooling and low-income home. They do not have resources or get to experience many things that other students their age do. Regardless of their background, they have every quality to be successful.

My Project

This year I was transferred to teach 3rd grade bilingual. Unfortunately, there are not enough resources available in Spanish. That means we have no Spanish books available for them to read in our classroom library. The district purchased a reading program that allows them access to hundreds of books not only in Spanish but on their individual reading level. It’s great for them to have this resource but, unfortunately, we are limited in the number of students who are able to use it at the same time. This year my classes grew by about 10 more students each. Which leaves about 20 more students from last year. The two extra iPads would ensure that more students have access to the books at once. Most of my students struggle to read but are great at comprehension. The iPads would allow them to listen to the stories and it would build up their confidence.
