This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a first year speech-language pathologist working in an elementary school. As a first year speech provider, I have limited access to materials that support my bilingual students. Many of my students come from bilingual and low-income households. They are so special because they come from different backgrounds, and are eager to come to school to learn everyday. I'd like to provide my students with materials that can support their speech and language goals in their home language.
Bilingual materials in speech therapy can promote cultural relevance, aid in language development, enhance engagement, and contribute to cognitive benefits associated with bilingualism.
These materials can help us to tailor interventions that support students in their speech and language development. They can also support students across multiple languages and cultural contexts.
