Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have a bright and beautiful group of 24 incredible children in our two-way Spanish dual immersion program. They spend the day with me learning entirely in Spanish with the goal of leaving 5th grade as confident bilingual and bi-literate learners who can read, write, and speak confidently in two languages. We are a Title I school and the majority of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Half of the students in my class are native Spanish speakers and the other half are acquiring Spanish as a second language.

My students come to me with a natural curiosity and excitement around learning, and I facilitate experiences to allow them to reach their limitless potential.

I consider it a huge honor to be their teacher and do not accept this responsibility lightly. I recognize that our school system is not set up to support and nurture our urban youth of color, and I am grateful to build a community that wraps our arms around our students and families to do so.

I am requesting flexible seating for my students, books and activities to celebrate Earth Day, 100 day crowns, Spanish stickers to use as prizes and motivation, and also bins to house all the new books that we just received!
