Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a foreign language elementary school teacher. I teach Spanish for K-5. One of my objectives in teaching them this language is to keep it exciting and fun. Hopefully, their interest in foreign language will carry through to middle school, high school and college. A great way for them to learn a language is to sing songs and play games. The "English-Spanish Bilingual Songs" program is an excellent way for them to continue using their primary language while learning a new one. This should also prove beneficial to my LEP (limited English proficiency) students. While most of them are Spanish speakers, this program will help them with their Spanish and English. By using a bilingual approach they can make connections from one language to another. This program has 2 volumes: one for the beginner (this will be used for K-2) and volume two for the advanced (this will be used for grades 3-5). In addition to the CDs and lyric books, the program also comes with workbooks. These should assist in helping the students apply by written practice what they have learned in the music. Our school, Lone Oak Elementary, has about 300 students. Of these students 85% are on free/reduced lunch programs and about 40% are non-English speaking.
