Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are curious, determined, and eager to explore the world through language. As Spanish learners in a Title 1 high school, many of them face challenges that can limit their access to high quality language learning resources. Yet, despite these obstacles, they show up every day ready to expand their minds, embrace new cultures, and develop skills that will open doors for their futures. Their enthusiasm for learning Spanish is inspiring, and I want to provide them with the best tools to support their journey.
These resources will help bring Spanish to life beyond worksheets and traditional lessons, giving students hands on experiences that strengthen their bilingual abilities.
Creating their own posters and resources challenges their creativity. My students are working hard on their literacy skills so the bookmarkers and power strips will help them do research and work on their essays. Snacks are a great way to reward their participation and encourage them to stay engaged.
My project goals are:
Making language learning interactive and enjoyable.
Improve fluency and comprehension through reading, listening, and speaking activities.
Build confidence in communication by encouraging students to use Spanish in real life situations. Also, foster a lifelong love for language and culture by connecting students with authentic materials.
Many of my students are learning Spanish as a second (or even third!) language, and they come from diverse backgrounds with unique perspectives. Some have never had the opportunity to travel outside of their community, yet through language learning, they are discovering new cultures, traditions, and ways of thinking. They are not just memorizing words they are developing bilingual brains, one word at a time.
With these resources, we can create an engaging, supportive, and inspiring learning environment that empowers my students to become confident Spanish speakers and global citizens.
