This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project will provide bilingual books for my students to read both at school and at home with their families. Many of my students are emerging bilinguals who speak another language at home, and having access to books in both English and their home language supports literacy development in powerful ways. Bilingual books help build vocabulary, improve reading comprehension, and strengthen the connection between home and school.

My goal is to create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students see their language and culture valued.

These books will encourage family involvement in reading, even for parents who may not be fluent in English. When students are able to read and discuss books with their families in a language they understand, it builds confidence, strengthens language skills, and fosters a love of reading that carries into the classroom.

What makes my students special is their diversity, resilience, and eagerness to learn. They bring rich cultural experiences to our classroom, and they thrive when given materials that reflect who they are. By putting bilingual books in their hands, we’re not just supporting literacy—we’re affirming their identities and helping them grow as confident, successful learners.
