Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My classroom comprises bright, curious 5th-grade bilingual learners and students with disabilities who are developing their reading skills in both English and Spanish. Many of my students are working hard to build fluency and comprehension in two languages, and they benefit significantly from consistent reading practice at home and school.
To support this, we need books and book pouches to create a Bilingual Book Bag Library—a rotating take-home library of leveled Spanish-English books that students can borrow each week to read with their families.
Each student will get a book bag filled with:
- Bilingual or dual-language books at their independent reading level
- A reading log or reflection sheet
- Optional family discussion questions or vocabulary cards
This project will help students:
- Reinforce reading strategies at home
- Build pride and confidence in both languages
- Engage families in their learning journey
- Improve fluency and comprehension with repeated reading
Many students don’t have access to Spanish-language books outside of school. Your support will help us build a diverse collection of titles that reflect their language, culture, and reading goals—all packaged in a kid-friendly, take-home format they’ll be excited to use.
