It is my pleasure to be part of the five member counseling team. We counselors lovingly refer to ourselves as the Fabulous Five because we each bring our own unique strengths and talents to the table and it shows as we support the 2000 + members of our student body. One way we address the academic, career, and social emotional needs of our students is through special events and assemblies such as our biannual college fair, our trade school fair and classroom special guest engagement. We tend to host large groups of students at our functions but we are prevented from incorporating music and inviting crowd participation into those functions because we don't have access to a portable PA system. We've found ourselves repeatedly stating that these events would be so much better if we had music to set the tone, or if we had microphones for ease of hearing the message from our participants, a particular priority for our deaf and hard of hearing population which is the largest in the Philadelphia school district.
As we closeout this academic year and plan for the next, we decided that we wanted to stop wishing for a better special event experience; that we would start asking for help to create one!
