My Students
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -- Benjamin Franklin
My students learn best when they are interacting with one another. This year we are focusing on hands-on learning and having opportunities to work with each other.
My students are enthusiastic 5th graders who are excited for their final year in elementary school.
They are bursting with energy to finish with a strong year and are highly motivated to learn. Their positive attitude enables them to be hard workers and well behaved. These 5th graders are highly interested in academic excellence and exudes confidence in performing arts and oral presentations. My class consists of 35% English Language Learners, which has me using various teaching methods to help them learn the English language along with the other 5th grade standards, including the Common Core. Being at a Title I school, we are limited to various supplies, equipment, classroom furniture, and technology, so my students don't have access to every equipment they need to help them succeed. In spite of all that, my students rise up and overcome these challenges with what we do have and with high spirits and motivation.
My Project
I believe all my students, which include my English Language Learners (ELLs) and my students with learning disabilities, will benefit from having a new projector screen in the classroom. We use our new document camera and projector, which we received through DonorsChoose last year, on a daily basis in various ways for presentations, displaying work, teaching lessons, and even showing video clips. This enables all students to view clearly what is being shown and taught no matter where they are situated in the classroom. However, our projector screen is very old and is now unusable. A third of my class have a visual impairment, so our temporary substitute of butcher paper is not beneficial to them. A new projector screen will allow the students to once again have a clear view of what is being displayed during lessons and presentations. They will be excited to share their work and ideas in front of their classmates and view video and other content clearly from anywhere in the room.
Having a new screen will renew my students' spirits and enthusiasm towards learning.
They will be engaged and focused as they can now view content being displayed on the new screen with clarity. There are many positive rewards that come with a new projector screen such as vibrant colors, sharp and clear content, and a large display, just to name a few. This will make using our projector and document camera even more purposeful. Visually impaired students will have clearer views of the display.
