This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a 5th grade full inclusion Language Arts teacher. My school is located in a high-need community, and every bit of help is greatly appreciated.
I told my students about these books with this great character, Hank Zipzer. They got very interested, but unfortunately our library only has one copy. Our school is unable to buy class sets of books.
Having class sets of these books will not only allow my students to read a great novel, but it will also help build community in the classroom. The students enjoy having class discussions. If we are all able to read the same book, then that will be possible.
With your help, it will be possible for my students to read these very funny books. It is not often that these students get to read novels. A lot of these kids don't get to see new books at home, and they don't have anyone to discuss books with that they have read. Because these books are part of a series, if the students really enjoy them we can then get more books from the series.
