Big Project for Our Big Feelings

My Students

In September, 20 new students will be starting their first grade year with me through a remote learning experience. These students will enter the school year with a diverse set of needs to support them through the online experience. Some students were active through remote learning in the Spring, but many students haven't participated in much learning since we left our classrooms in March.

I look forward to uniting this diverse group with an engaging approach through distance learning.

We will connect through shared experiences during our morning meetings and live instruction. Students will have the unique opportunity to build community in a remote situation.

My Project

Kimochi is the Japanese word for feeling. In today's environment, students are experiencing many big feelings. The addition of the Kimochi characters and the Educator Toolkit into both my virtual and in-person classrooms will allow me to assist students in identifying and communicating their feelings.

Kimochi characters promote a safe opportunity for students to see themselves in the characters.

Students are encouraged to understand that it's okay to have a variety of feelings. They learn what they can do with those feelings to maintain their dignity and their relationships with peers.
