What do I love about my students? Their resilience! It amazes me every day. We live in an area where drugs and poverty consume the majority of every part of my kids' lives. School is an escape for them. Some of them beg to remain at school for as long as possible so it is only natural that I would want the best for them. As a teacher, my aim is to do whatever it takes to help my students learn the subject being taught in my classroom and my purpose is to guide them in that process. I just believe that it would be such a benefit to our classroom if we had a couple of tables in the classroom for our activities and for group work.
Kids come in all shapes and sizes at ever age, but never more is there a bigger difference than during the time when they are in middle school.
I have several students that have already outgrown the desks in the classroom by the time they reach 7th grade. These students would be so much more comfortable if they could sit at a table with a chair.
My Project
I truly believe that classroom furniture can provide a more engaging learning environment for my students. We have old broken desks in our classroom now and I hope to little by little replace the desks with new tables and chairs.
By the time some students reach middle school, they have grown into large people that just do not fit very well into student desks.
Having tables and chairs will make the classroom a much better "fit" and provide them with a much more pleasant learning experience.
We also need tables in our classroom for group work and for math activities that are very difficult to do in small desks.
