This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When I open up a big book with my preschoolers, I see their eyes widen with anticipation as they can see each detail of the story in the illustrations. I want to build our big book collection as a way to continue to draw my students into a world of reading.
Our school serves a high-poverty population and seeks to provide students with educational experiences that will shape them into life-long learners.
Our preschool students are lively and ready to learn, but often have not been exposed to literacy and mathematic constructs that will help them attain kindergarten readiness. Our goal is to support our students to reach their fullest potential and infuse each day with wonder and discovery!
My Project
The big books like What I Like About Me, A Book Celebrating Differences, Monster Musical Chairs, Double the Ducks, The Best Bug Parade, easel and nursery rhyme flip chart will be used during our circle time story reading time. Big books allow the students to become more involved with the story as they learn the preschool reading strategy of "reading the pictures". Our classroom library is sorely in need of high-quality math books, and these two series I have chosen, Math Start and Math Counts, are two of the best I have found for this age. I will use these books to help build knowledge and reinforce concepts that they will use in hands-on activities in the classroom.
This project will help us to build and maintain our collection of big books, develop phonetic awareness through nursery rhymes, and explore math concepts through engaging children's literature.
Thank you in advance for your investment in our youngest learners!
