My Students

I live and teach in a high poverty school district in Ohio where we provide free breakfast and lunch for every student. In fact, many students see school as one of the few stable and positive places in their lives. In our classroom, we strive to create a family where we work, grow, and learn together.

We do our best to leave our problems at the door and focus on learning and building each other up.

These kids are absolutely amazing, but due to circumstances outside their control, are often not given the same opportunities and experiences as their peers in other parts of the U.S. Each of my kids deserves the very best that I can give them. So my goal is to empower each and every one of them to finally feel in control of something - their learning.

My Project

Not all students learn the same way or need to be taught the exact same thing. As a teacher, I do my best to differentiate instruction for each of my students. I pull groups of 5 or 6 students and teach them the strategies they need at the pace they need to succeed. However, this is difficult without a small group table. Currently, we are pushing student tables together, causing students to feel squished together during lessons.

We desperately need a small group table to comfortably work together safely while still learning at our own individual pace.
