Can you imagine sitting in a hard, plastic chair at your computer trying to complete your technology assignment? Not only are the chairs hard, but they are too small for the high-school students in my class. Save our backs! Padded chairs would be nice so we could concentrate and focus on our work.
My students are high school freshmen.
Our school is located in a low economic area in WV. Recently our room received 3 new computers, and we have 4 old ones(Windows 98. We have the 7 computers on long tables to resemble computer work stations. The students are using hard plastic chairs, but they are hoping for more comfortable chairs for their computer workstations. The students are dedicated and hardworking. They are respectful and take pride in their school also. They deserve comfortable chairs that are big enough for them to sit in while completing their assignments at the computers.
My Project
My request is simple, big chairs for big kids. These chairs could also be moved from the computer stations to make a circle in the middle of the room for Readers' Theater. They could also be moved to the front of the room for grand literary discussions or debates. When parents visit the classroom, we could offer them a seat to observe our class. Most of all, students would be comfortable at the computers if they had padded chairs that fit their physique. My students are adult-size and expected to sit in student-size desks and chairs all day. They would be able to do more technology tasks and learn computer skills better if they were comfortable.
Students would voluntarily want to use the computers more often if they had suitable chairs at the computers.
Technology skills would improve and seating could be provided for a variety of activities in the classroom by moving the chairs around the room when necessary.
