Big Feelings, Brave Hearts: Building Our SEL Library

Help me give my students an SEL library. We need the A Little SPOT SEL Book Sets (Books 1–16) and Mini Plush Toys to build a calming corner that teaches emotional regulation, kindness, and resilience.

My Project

My students are bright, curious, and full of so much heart. Every day, they bring their big ideas and even bigger emotions into the classroom. What makes them truly special is their incredible capacity for kindness, resilience, and growth — even when they’re still learning how to manage all the feelings that come with being young in a complicated world.

This project is deeply personal to me because I see every day how much my students need tools to help them understand and express their emotions.

The A Little SPOT SEL Book Sets (Books 1–16) and Mini Plush Toys will make a profound difference in their learning by giving them age-appropriate language for their feelings, strategies for self-regulation, and relatable characters they can see themselves in. The plush toys will also serve as comforting companions in our new calming corner, offering a tangible way for students to soothe themselves when they feel overwhelmed.

My goal for this project is to build a classroom where emotional learning is just as important as academic learning — a place where students feel safe, understood, and empowered. I want my students to know that it’s okay to have big feelings, and that there are healthy ways to work through them. By building a strong SEL library and creating a comforting space, I hope to equip my students not just for success in the classroom, but for life.
