My Project

My goal for this project is to provide engaging, tangible ways for students to connect with fundamental music concepts. Through breathwork, students will learn focus and self-regulation, while rhythmic activities with Voit balls will develop their timing, coordination, and teamwork. These tools will create a dynamic and interactive classroom where students don’t just learn music, they experience it.

Music is not just about making sound; it’s about breath, movement, and rhythm.

This project, Big Breaths and Bouncy Beats, will provide my students with expandable breathing balls and Voit balls to enhance their musical learning experience. The breathing balls will support my 3rd through 5th-grade students by helping them visualize and control their breath, which is essential for singing, relaxation, and emotional regulation. By physically expanding and contracting these balls, students will develop a deeper awareness of how breath connects to musical phrasing, mindfulness, and performance confidence.

The Voit balls will be used across all grades (K–5) to bring rhythm to life in a kinesthetic way. Students will engage in interactive rhythm games that reinforce steady beat, syncopation, and coordination, all while refining their fine motor skills. By using movement and tactile learning, these tools will make music more accessible, especially for students who thrive in hands-on learning environments.

My students are unique because of their diverse backgrounds and a great enthusiasm for music. Many come from communities where music education is limited, making every moment in our classroom a special opportunity for growth and exploration. Despite challenges, they are resilient, creative, and eager to learn. By supporting this project, you are giving them the tools to breathe deeply, move freely, and make music with confidence.
