My students need 20 big books. Big Books are enlarged versions of children's books. They are a very effective way to get children excited about reading.

"There is no substitute for books in the life of a child." — May Ellen Chase
As the years go by and the world changes around us, there is one thing that remains the same. . . the importance of books. Books are the single most important tool in my classroom. They inspire, ignite and excite my students.
Step inside my kindergarten classroom where we play, learn and grow together.
You will see my students engaged in learning though books. Books are the perfect way to make learning fun! I love to see how excited they become when I open a book. Their eyes are glued to the pictures and you can hear giggles as I read in several different voices. The best part of it all is when I am done with the book and I hear these wonderful words: “Can you read it again? Please!” My students definitely develop a love of reading and it is one that I hope will last a lifetime.
My Project
Have you ever held or read a big book? It is a larger version of the regular size books we have all seen. There is something so exciting and powerful about a big book. My students love the large size of the book, the beautiful, enlarged illustrations and the large words that are big enough for them to help read along with me.
Big books are a great way to motivate my students to want to read. It is such an exciting way for them to experience books. This experience is called shared reading. This means that my students get to read along with me. I model how to read with fluency and expression in my voice. Shared reading also helps to build their knowledge of sight words. Reading big books together helps to ensure that all students, regardless of their reading level, feel successful as readers. Reading big books together is such an important step in the reading process. This will help them to become independent readers while instilling an excitement for reading. It’s a win-win!
“A book is a gift you can open again and again.” ― Garrison Keillor
I strongly believe that reading is the basis of all learning.
It is so important that I impact my kindergarteners and help them in every way possible to become readers. The learning they do in kindergarten and the books they read will help them their whole life through. Thank you for your consideration in helping to get big books in the hands of my kindergarteners.
