This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a new teacher, approaching my second year, I have a better view of what my students need. I teach a very diverse group of first graders. At this age they are extremely curious and I like to gear their curiosity towards the exploration of reading.
I am very blessed to have a large amount of "Big Books" in my classroom. These big books are a fabulous resource to help my students learn to read. It also allows for shared reading and an opportunity for my students to take pride in what they have accomplished. Unfortunately, I have no where to put these books. They have been stuffed into a closet where my students don't have access to them.
The resource of two big book holders would make it possible for my students to truly benefit from these materials. I have also added a big book called, "The Colors of Us". While teaching a diverse group of children, it is important to put an emphasis on our differences. "The Colors of Us" is a great book to help children embrace their themselves and their classmates for exactly who we are, no matter our color.
Your help can truly make the difference for my students. You can make it possible for my students to embrace our diversities as well as provide us with an excellent and safe storage area for our resources. This project will greatly impact the reading of each and everyone of my students.
