Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

While we all love these classic read alouds, my English language learners, about 1/3 of my class, benefit immensely from the shared reading experience of reading a big book together with their classmates. When we are reading a text together, with BIG font and BIG images, they can practice reading chorally. They can access multiple cuing systems and can practice language in a low-pressure way, along with their peers.

These big books are incredibly valuable for creating shared reading experiences, but can also be quite expensive for a school to purchase.

These big books allow us all to access high-quality, touchstone books that align with our ELD curriculum. They also create some shared language amongst our classroom by exposing all of the students to classic, high-quality literature.
