My Students
First graders are extremely curious and eager to discover the world around them. We work together in many ways to grow as learners and as friends. From morning meeting to our end of the day game, the children are focused on being safe, respectful, and responsible!
These six-year-olds know the importance of setting a goal and working toward it.
Students are often laughing in our classroom, as we test out new ideas. They each have a can-do attitude, and support one another with comments like, "Have clear thoughts!" and "Try it again!"
My Project
My students and I LOVE 'L' words... Literacy, Laughter, and Learning! One of our favorite parts of the day is Shared Reading. We relish reading, re-reading, and acting out the story lines from our current Big Book collection. If you walked into our room early one morning, you might just see us role playing a favorite book.
We giggle at our attempts to become the mean ol' Troll waiting under the bridge, or the energetic gingerbread cookie running away from the hungry animals.
Big books are important in our classroom because they have enlarged text. This means that if a child is sitting in the back row, he or she can clearly see the words. This is critical when I teach word solving strategies, since all of the children can be actively involved in the learning.
The only problem is that over the last few years, our big books are definitely showing that they have been well loved!
