This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I like when you read to me! I'm going to read it too!" These were the words of one of my preschool students after a read aloud before choice time. To see my student choose library for a choice and imitate the way I read the story to him was one of the most rewarding experiences I have felt while being a teacher.

Our school is a brand new Pre-K center that provides developmentally appropriate practices and a safe environment that is conducive for learning.

Our mission is to provide opportunities for our students to learn and grow through authentic experiences that will build a solid foundation for their academic success. The program we provide our students incorporates interactive activities, student-inquiry based lessons, and appropriate social/emotional experiences that target the holistic development of a preschooler.

Our school is located in a low-income area that strives to provide support to our students, as well as their families. We are continuing to build relationships and incorporate the cultures of our students and their families into our everyday instruction.

My Project

Many of my students are English language learners. Creating this project will make a difference in their participation in literacy based activities. Preschool students have the tendency to interact with manipulatives that are larger than normal. I believe all my students will want to pick up a book and try to tell the story by using the large visuals within the big books. Audio books are another must in my preschool class because my students are not reading yet.

My students need big books, as well as books on audio.
